Cambrian House Complete First IdeaWarz Tournament, Validates Crowdsourcing Model

First Tournament Winner FundableFilms will Receive Market Test to Determine Viability

Web 2.0 Conference, San Francisco, Calif. – Nov. 8, 2006 – Cambrian House Inc., a leading commercial crowdsourcing software company today announced the winner of its first IdeaWarz tournament, FundableFilms (known as FilmFunder in the tournament). FundableFilms will connect aspiring film makers with other members of the industry to acquire funding and support.  It will now enter the Cambrian House test marketing phase to determine both its overall viability and profit potential.

Cambrian House is the first software company to harness the power of the virtual crowd to create products and bring them to market.  The Cambrian House community uses the IdeaWarz.com website and forum to select and vote on favorite ideas to potentially take to market.  More than 600 members of the Cambrian House community voted for the first IdeaWarz tournament.  FundableFilms will receive both a website and an online marketing plan to determine market interest.  If taken to market successfully, FundableFilms creator, Andy Doan, will receive royalties, along with others who will participate in the building of the product.

“Crowdsourcing is an exciting new concept, and we are pleased to take it to the next level with our monthly IdeaWarz winners,” said Michael J. Sikorsky, Cambrian House CEO.  “Our community can really get involved in the creation and execution of ideas, and make money in the process.  This is a great way to utilize their passion and creativity and become involved as true inventors, without the risks of investors and incubators.”

Cambrian House has a highly active community that exceeded 7,000 members last week.  Approximately 21 percent have contributed ideas to be crowdsourced. This is in comparison to other interactive websites that average one percent participation among members, according to Jakob Nielson, user advocate and principal of the Nielson Norman Group.  Similar one percent average participation results have recently been calculated by both YouTube and Yahoo, as Charles Arthur of The Guardian (England) recently reported.

IdeaWarz winner Andy Doan is a web contract consultant from St. Thomas, Canada, and producer of sci-fi podcasts. “I submitted the idea because there are hundreds of talented writers and directors with fresh ideas that don't get [noticed by] big studios because their vision doesn't fit the formula, and FundableFilms will prove a venue to address new talent and ideas,” said Andy Doan.  Doan has been a Cambrian House community member since July of 2006.

“The FundableFilms idea, which creates an online community where members can share ideas, receive feedback and connect to funding sources, shows the diversity of crowdsourced software possibilities and the wealth of knowledge in crowds,” Sikorsky said of FundableFilms. “We are hoping that like YouTube's creation of a venue for short amateur videos, FundableFilms can help turn amateur filmmakers into professionals.”

Based on positive community feedback and close voting results, Cambrian House will also commit to market testing the IdeaWarz runner-up, Spoil my Spouse, an idea submitted by John Lynn (TechGuy) of Las Vegas, Nevada.
