The success of any kind of social epidemic is heavily dependent on the involvement of people with a particular and rare set of social gifts.

The Idea

If the crowd is so good at monitoring markets, predicting sporting event outcomes, and developing software, why not let the crowd help hook up people?
Let people put their own profiles on a website. They can suggest matches for themselves, as well as matches for their friends. Then, the crowd gets to vote on the best matches, or suggest their own matches.
Must they go on dates?
C'mon, we aren't a bunch of crowdsourced hillbillies performing shot gun weddings are we?
OK. We'll think about that...
I believe this would be fun and fun drives page views, so strong advertising revenue will sustain and grow this.
I was going to suggest Hookr as a name... but, maybe not so much.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I think we can beat Dr. Phil and that smiley eHarmony guy.

Essentially do a LinkedIn for dating might work. It's not quite the crowd, but you could tap into the "crowd" of connections to see who you think you should date. That could be pretty interesting.

I really think crowdsource dating might be very interesting - I see some real possibilities for this.
