Cambrian House is a very interesting idea - crowdsourced software. Their goal is to leverage the wisdom of crowds to both receive as well as filter business ideas, code and creative content.

The Idea

Lots of VMware appliances are available and so is the VMWare player. Way not have the ability to turn your VMWare VM into an executable. A tough nut to crack - but imagine being able to download you favourite appliance - could even be your PC as a VM (carry it around on a fob - as they get larger and larger in capacity) - and just be able to run it on any PC.

I thought of this idea when I was...

While I was creating a executable zip file.

checkout Moka5.com - they have an invisible install of the VMware player that occurs at runtime.

we're creating virtual appliances of our own (JumpBox.com) that have the ability to run under Parallels, VMware and Xen. They work now by simply double-clicking the .vmx or .pvs file (not an exe perse but works on any OS) - it launches the app and displays a config wizard to set the hostname and passwords on first usage.

Moka5 has actually already converted our MediaWiki JumpBox to run under their system-> http://www.moka5.com/node/727

it's a great idea but it's being done.

That's great news that it's been done - I have no problem in finding out an idea I've had has been done, in a way in vindicates my thinking. Thanks a bunch for letting me know.

Cheers - Steve
