A prince who is not himself wise cannot be wisely advised: good advice depends on the shrewdness of the prince who seeks it.

The Idea

My Idea is to linking millions of personal computers like yours into the largest and fastest computing resource in history. This is know as Peer-to-peer computing and is defined as the sharing of resources (such as hard drives and processing cycles) You would need to give up about 10MB of space and a little cpu power. Other examples of this are SETI @ home and FightAIDSatHome Google has around 80,000 servers but I'm talking about millions! How does this make money? You would need to pay a yearly subscription

I thought of this idea when I was...

I got this idea when some members of the FBI asked me for the SETI @ home source code.

pretty sweet idea but there are to many free serch engins for ppl to have to pay to use one plus google probly has 80,000 servers with around a gig of space on eatch it woudl take hundreds of thousdands of personal computers to match that at 10mb eatch and i dont mean to pick but not many people like to share info off there computer with all the adwere and spywere out there these days

Yeah scrap the idea of subscription and go with more of a ad system like google.

Well I am talking about about Millions of users.
From SETI @ home website: "Currently the largest distributed computing effort with over 3 million users."
And change that 10mb to whatever the user would like 100mb, 200mb, 1 gig?
BUT your RIGHT that darn Adware and Spyware is nasty. Getting people to trust programs/idea's like this one wont be easy. But it would be nice if people would join togeather and make the best search engine ever. ( and I got paid millions! )

Has been tried before by various P2P clients (building hidden network, client to utilize user's spare CPU resources). Think there's too much (justified) paranoia regarding security issues, and too little demand for the resources. Amazon and Sun are experimenting with leasing out CPU power (Sun created a grid system), and I just don't think the demand is there yet.
