A market is never saturated with a good product, but it is very quickly saturated with a bad one.

The Idea

In any idea brainstorm, it's inevitable that folks will come up with similar ideas. This is true with CH, too.

My idea is to create a "patent" system for the CH community. For a fee, CH will register your idea with a CHIP--marking it as an "original idea." (As long as no one else registers the idea before you.)

This doesn't mean that if someone else stumbles on the same idea as you that they can't pursue the creation of the idea; it just means that the concept originator gets a royalty.

Of course, this IP only officially stands in the CH community.

However, I think this accomplishes a few things: it creates a fairer system to determining idea ownership, adds revenue to the community, and puts a little "money where your mouth is" to motivate better ideas.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Just following this thread.

Nice creative thinking mswayne.... i hope you CHIPed this idea before you let it loose:)

Not sure if there is any benefit in closing the stable door after the horses have run out but i'm voting it up!

Hmmm what happens if someone CHIPs an idea that is already in the CH domain, will it act like patents where prior art will invalidate the registration?

Interesting...

Two Thumbs Up! This idea electrifies me! I'll bet my Cambros, RPs, and GPs on this!

could a person still submit ideas without paying for protection?

I would think they could.

Would need to add a means of transferring ownership of CHIP to others or licensing use of the CHIP. Otherwise, good ideas can get locked up by folks with no intention or ability to get them rolling.

Here's a thought: if the idea is really that good, the holder of the CHIP could put it out for bid. The better the idea, the higher the price it will fetch. This would be a great incentive for folks with lots of good ideas but no interest in bringing things to market. Also, a poor idea creator can sell ideas to raise capital for the killer app in her back pocket.

Managers and investors with a knack for getting start-ups running, but no real creativity themselves ( ;^) ) could also benefit from this arrangement. Say, this is beginning to look like the real world....

I haven't had a chance to pursue it, beyond making it a business. But, I think I'll get back in the saddle.

It's been done in the world we live in and where has it gotten us? Red tape and more red tape. I am adamently opposed to bogging down such a great idea as crowdsourcing with more politics. This forum to me is one of open expression and problem solving. If people can become less selfish and work together it will be very successful. If not then it will fail. If things like this idea start happening I will withdraw. Not that you should really care, you don't know me. Who else will leave?

neat! This is what we need for all those repeated ideas ...

I wish to promote this myself!
