Use the power of a global community to predict the course of events. Mainly technology futures (but that's just my area of interest).
Companies spend large amounts of money on R&D trying to see what the future will hold, predicting the next technology convergence point and what the development of technologies mean. Using the power of a global community would allow a map of the most likely course of events to be mapped out from a base subject. A subject would be posted and likely next steps submitted, these would be voted on and new branches of direction developed based on the consensus of the community.
Thinking about my other idea - Life on the Web. It's all about convergence and how comapnies develop strategies for the future based on R&D.
Depending how your site functions, you might or might not get better predictions than the companies make in house - if you explained how you make sure they were better it would be a great first step. Next you need to convince the companies of what you've convinced me.
Interesting... let me know if this develops more interest.
I would stay clear of the "Business Market" until the idea develops... if they are willing to pay in advance... fantastic... but I would recommend outflanking big players by gaining marketshare and data access points in smaller niche markets.
I would be interested if the vision focuses on niche markets. While coders create the global solution behind the scenes... the company could build revenue by providing this prediction capability to other businesses as a web service.
I would be willing to search for these niche market opportunities.
have a look at http://www.SpringSpotters.com
Predictions, a CH member named WilliamHurst brought up the idea of "BrainWave or BrainStorm" that proposes to tap into large groups of people to solve problems. Likewise your idea is just as powerfull. I like your idea alot and would think that the two ideas merged would be very powerful.
Hi sajjadi335,
Thanks for showing me that site it's excellent. The site appears to be for ideas that have already come to fruition. My suggestion is to take current ideas and predict where they will go in the future - taking into account all sorts of factors, such as macroeconomic conditions, technological advances - in fact anything that comes to the community mind.
Thanks again.
Cheers - Steve
How does this type of services will make some money? Is this site a forum or just like Springspotters?
Hi Iskandar,
Good question. I see this as a service that can be used by companies to augment their R&D - so there will be a commercial angle to this service. With regard to the greater community I don't know.
Cheers - Steve
Hi Predictions
You're welcome. SpringSpotters is not just for ideas. Ideas submitted to it are posted in two other sites (after review), one for ideas (I think was named SpringWise) and another one for TRENDS, as I remember named TrendWatch. The second site is what you're suggesting I think. The site has a newsletter to which companies could subscribe by paying an annual fee.
The problem with democracy, is that the masses are sometimes idiots.
Case in point GW Bush. Not getting political here, but when was the last time you saw some prediction come true from a mob group? Usually they come from eccentrics!
is this a market research company or R and D?
Hi Gods_Light,
Good question. The R&D aspect is plain to see but you've got me thinking about the idea in a broader sense. The service could also be used as a form of market research that would allow the company to determine the most likely direction a product should develop in. Marketing and R&D should be linked in some fashion.
Thanks for the thought provoking question.
Cheers - Steve
