The Idea

TV listings is the most intense database on the Internet. You can go down channels, go up channels, forward in time, backwards in time, into a show, read details, pick the actor and see his/her details. Zoom back out and or through connecting details. How cool would that be in 3D, sort of like a 3D shooter video game or inside a sphere, or on the surface of a globe. I hear you can buy the listings from TVGuide.com then you would have to import them into the 3D interface. How does this make money? I guess the same way other TV Listings sites make money.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I got this idea when I was using TV Listings on the web.

Sound nice, but pretty hard to implement. Not sure it would make much money.

See the history of IMDB to see the year's of work involved in making a truly outstanding database like you describe. They are already doing much of what you ask for.

Hi there - great idea - maybe change the the name to get more attention (I didn't get what it meant until i read the description). Essentially the traditional interface that every company copies (scrolling way forward then way down/back) is annyoing. This is becoming a larger problem as more and more channels are added.

I believe the company that provides the TV listings is Tribute Media (they also provide the movie listings to most papers/media outlets). Oddly enough I believe they are being put up for sale (they also own a lot of other media properties). The listings comes as a datafile and then has to be converted with a custom app. that the media outlet has to design.

I could see two revenue streams for this.

1. Create a very attractive app for users that would also display information (the All in Wonder came with something like this - except is sucks)
2. Resell it to the cable/satellite companies

Keep me in the loop

Digiterata I'm not talking about making a database.
What I was saying is TV-listings is the most amazing site on the internet. The 2D display is old and 3D display is the future.

It would make money from ads.

Go to google and look up "VR desktop display." The video will blow your mind. This guy, harold lee, would be the one that you would want to talk to. If he hasn't been scooped up already. If Google were to jump into the video game console market this would be the guy they should get.
